02 · Planned maintenance

Service machinery before it fails

A planned maintenance system (PMS) turns the manufacturer’s intervals and the vessel’s running hours into a schedule of jobs, spares and records. It is the backbone of technical ship management at Nanak.

Because spares are planned alongside jobs, parts arrive before they are needed, and Class and Flag State surveyors see a clean maintenance record.

Fuel diagnostics that pay for themselves

Fuel is usually the largest operating cost. Diagnostics compare engine performance and fuel use against expectations, so declining efficiency is caught early. The same data feeds IMO DCS reporting, SEEMP Part III and CII tracking.

FAQ

Questions we are asked most

Technical ship management covers superintendence, planned maintenance (PMS), drydocking, Class and Flag State compliance, and machinery reliability and fuel diagnostics. It keeps the vessel seaworthy and compliant. See the full scope on the Nanak technical management page.

A planned maintenance system schedules inspections, overhauls and spares against running hours and calendar intervals so machinery is serviced before it fails. It is a core part of technical ship management and produces the records that Class and Flag State surveyors ask for.

A superintendent is the shore-based technical lead for a vessel: they inspect the ship, review maintenance, agree repair specifications, manage dry-dock work and keep Class and Flag State matters on track. Dry-dock superintendence is also offered as a standalone service.

They spot declining engine performance and rising fuel use early, so repairs are planned instead of urgent and fuel cost and emissions stay under control. Nanak Ship Management includes both within technical management, alongside IMO DCS data reporting.

The technical team coordinates Class and Flag State surveys, tracks certificate expiry dates and acts as the liaison with the society and the Flag administration, so the owner is not chasing paperwork. Class and Flag State liaison is listed among the other ship management services.

Nanak Ship Management contracts are primarily BIMCO SHIPMAN, the standard ship management agreement, plus tailored crew management agreements where needed. Ask the operations desk how the agreement would apply to your vessel type and trading pattern.
